Sandra is known for her light, playful style and musical interpretation as a Middle Eastern dancer, performer, choreographer and instructor.
She specializes in raks-sharki (belly dance) and folkloric dances of the Middle East and surrounding regions.
Sandra's dance career
has been shaped by a lifetime love of dance, music, theatre and cultrural studies. She finds that she doesn't just hear the music,
she sees and feels the music moving, as though it were alive.
Sandra remains a passionate and devoted student of dance continually
pursuing learning opportunities and personal coaching in Middle Eastern dance, as well as training in other dance forms for additional
inspiration. She regularly attends workshops with many international renowned Master Teachers including Fahtiem, Jim Boz, Momo
Kadous, Susanna Del Vecchio, Suhaila Salimpour and many more. Her reasearch and training - coupled with her deep interest in
history, costume, music and arts of various cultures have a profound effect on her study of dance as a living and evolving art form.
Sandra (known as Sevilla in the dance community)
is founding member of Serpent Moon - a Denver based professional performance
troupe. Serpent Moon specializes in traditional, contemporary, and modern-fusion belly dance performances. Through work with Serpent
Moon, Sandra and other dancers are able to realize superior works and creative visions only possible with a large group or a theatrical
setting.
Sandra has been teaching regular belly dance classes since the fall of 2002 and continues to share the joy of dancing
with her students.
She emphasizes a physically and mentally healthy approach to dance; with focus on body awareness, proper alignment,
and healthy technique. She encourages positive body image and self acceptance, while helping her students explore their femininity
and inner grace through dance. Her humor and down-to-earth nature make her popular with students of all ages, shapes and sizes.
Sandra
completed her Zumba certification and has begun teaching Zumba at two different locations. She is thrilled to share her love of dance
and rhythm with others through a Latin dance fitness program.
Students report burning as many as 800 calories per hour while working
